SPECIAL BULLETIN JULY 10TH, 2000
In the fall of 1988, OVERLORDE played its last show and broke up around the end of 1988/start of 1989. During the following 12 years, it was assumed that the 1987 OVERLORDE EP had become a minor blip on the heavy metal radar, and the band would never perform together again.
But then in December 1999, OVERLORDE began to hear word that their 1987 EP had achieved something of a cult status in Europe. Unable to believe this, but also hoping it was true, the original members of OVERLORDE (Dave, Kong, and M.E.) began to use the internet to communicate with metalheads world wide.
The band held a meeting February 5th, 2000, to discuss the preliminary contacts and agreed to pursue a possible reunion. Certain goals were set, and this website was created as a central rallying point for fans.
With the website up for 5 months, and a ton of great feedback from fans and industry (as well as webzine/print zine interviews and radio airplay), the band agreed to hold a second meeting. The date for that meeting was set for July 9th. OVERLORDE would also practice together for the first time in 12 years during that meeting.
Yesterday was July 9th. The meeting went very well. The practice went even better. Jeremy, a potential vocalist for the OVERLORDE reunion, came in to jam on a few cover tunes like DESERT PLAINS, THE TROOPER, SIN CITY, ROCK & ROLL, and THE IMMIGRANT SONG. It felt and sounded great.
Jeremy sat down as the band began to go through its original material from the 80's. Having only been asked to attend a day before, and unfamiliar with the OVERLORDE EP, Jeremy was unable to contribute vocally. So the band went through the songs "sans vocals", or with Kong or M.E. making an attempt to sing.
Not only did the songs come rushing back to flow effortlessly from their fingers, but the band sounded better than they ever did in the 80's. 12 years of extra experience had only served to improve the OVERLORDE sound. Jeremy was to later say "Sounds like you guys last practiced yesterday, not 12 years ago!"
Jeremy's arrival had interrupted the meeting, so after the practice the band sat down to address the last few items on the meeting agenda. One of the items was the question: "Do we reunite now, or hold off to get more feedback?"
The answer to that question has been the subject of many e-mail inquires in recent months. Fans from across the world have been casting their vote for an OVERLORDE reunion. With the great feedback they had been recieving from the fans, and after the practice they just had, the band members had only one answer...
"YES !!!!"
In a unanimous decision, OVERLORDE voted to make the reunion official!
"I don't think anyone assumed the reunion would become official at that meeting." said guitarist Mark "M.E." Edwards. "I know I arrived at the meeting hoping for the reunion, but thinking we wouldn't make it official until we practiced a few more times. But we played together so well, and had so much fun, no one had any doubt in their minds. OVERLORDE was back!"
What exactly does this announcement mean? It means the band is committed to recording and releasing all the great material it wrote and performed in the 80's. It means the band will immediately prepare to record a new 2-song demo for record label review. But no matter what happens, even if no record label signs the band, a full length CD will be issued. Just as OVERLORDE self-released its 1987 vinyl EP, the band is once again prepared to self-record and self-release a new CD if a label deal fails to materialize.
So to all the fans that contacted OVERLORDE and showed their support, the band sends out a hearty "thanks". OVERLORDE hopes to reward your support with a new CD that meets and exceeds your expectations!
All Hail True Metal! All Hail FORCE RECON! Across the sea amidst the horizon, Overlorde forever binds us....!!! (from the song OVERLORDE)
