CURRENT UNIT STATUS  (continued from UNIT HISTORY)

M.E., Kong, and Dave (the original three founding members) met in February 2000 to discuss a possible reunion. It was decided to launch www.overlorde.com and start FORCE RECON (a metal community/fan club) to see if there was interest in an Overlorde reunion. Logo2000EmbossedTransparent.gif (22133 bytes)

There certainly was, so the band reunited in July 2000 (read the announcement here). A fan club/cyber street team was established, named Overlorde FORCE RECON to help gather the metal troops in support of the band. The three founding members then set about its search for the perfect singer to fill the vocal spot. It found that person in Bobby "Leather Lungs" Lucas, the former SEVEN WITCHES (Massacre Records) frontman. Read the announcement for more info.

The band recorded a demo titled Overlorde 2000 (released Nov/Dec 2000) which included the songs BLACKNESS, HELL HATH NO FURY, OGRE WIZARD, and METALLIC MADNESS. Overlorde has also recorded a cover of QUEEN OF THE REICH for Siegen Records upcoming tribute CD titled Warning: Minds of Raging Empires...II," A tribute to Queensryche".

Support from the metal press has been phenomenal. Here are some of the ratings Overlorde 2000 received:

Germany's  ROCK HARD included the song BLACKNESS on its Unerhort! [Die Besten Bands Ohne Deal] #10 compilation CD, which featured the best unsigned metal bands in the world.  HEAVY, ODER WAS?! included HELL HATH NO FURY on its Metal Crusade 2 compilation CD. Canada's METAL-RULES.COM has also included a live version of SNOW GIANT (recorded at Classic Metal Fest 2002) on its compilation CD METAL-RULES.COM VOL I.

An initial preproduction recording session was done in December 2001, and those recordings, along with Overlorde 2000, were used to market the band to record labels.

The band  played a few select shows, including a well received debut reunion show at POWERMAD V Metal Fest in August 2001 and CLASSIC METAL FEST 2002 (where it was named "Best of Fest" by Mettle Psychosurgery webzine).

Overlorde 2000 received airplay on metal radio and net radio stations. It  received steady play on www.snakenet.com, where Overlorde was named winner of Sankenet's "Indie Battle of the Bands 2002".

In 2004, the band's reunion achieved its goal when Overlorde signed a record deal with Greece's premier metal label, CULT METAL CLASSICS records. Beginning July 2004, the band entered TRAX EAST RECORDING STUDIOS in NJ to begin recording its debut release RETURN OF THE SNOW GIANT. Meanwhile, Cult Metal Classics became part of SONIC AGE RECORDS and the CD was set to be released under the Sonic Age label on December 17, 2004.

The CD was released and received wide spread praise from the metal media and fans alike. Radio airplay on both Metal commercial radio and online metal radio has been extensive. The CD was even rated # 2 out of 73 CDs reviewed in the SOUNDCHECK feature of Germany's respected true metal magazine HEAVY, ODER WAS?!  Many of the reviews and items related to the CD are posted at THE REALM OF THE SNOW GIANT page.

Overlorde performed it first European show to a large and enthusiastic crowd at KEEP IT TRUE IV metalfest on April 2nd, 2005 in Germany and headlined a great show in Chicago. Through 2005, the band continued promoting the CD (though it did not perform more live shows). it started its MySpace Page, and  looked toward recording its second CD for Sonic Age Records. It  also celebrated its 20th anniversary in June 2005 with special events like an in-studio interview at WDHA's METAL MANIA radio show in New Jersey and .

2006 saw  little activity by the band. Work on the second CD was delayed. As 2007 began, the band was approached to perform at BROOKLYN METALFEST II in June. But as the show approached, the band parted ways with vocalist Bobby Lucas. Vocalist Chris Colfax stepped in to perform live. The show went great, and Chris signed on as Overlorde's permanent vocalist.

At the time of this update (July 2007) writing for the second CD is underway and Kong is scheduled to do a MEET & GREET at Dragon Con in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend.
